Bout Recap – Dollz Beat the Babes in Bemidji!

SFRD & Babe City

Dollz Beat the Babes in Bemidji
Sioux Falls Roller Dollz versus Babe City Rollers, Bemdiji, MN – Saturday, May 5th

It was truly a triumph of the underdogs when the Dollz skated to victory this weekend in Bemidji. This was the second meeting of the two teams this season: the Babes met the Dollz in Minneapolis for a double-header Sunday bout back in February. It was the first bout of the season for the Dollz and was the second bout of the day after taking a loss against the Ohio Roller Girls. The Babe City Rollers are a fast and agile team, relying heavily on scrum packs and jam-line strategies. The combination proved too much for the Dollz in February and they took a bitter loss against the Babes.

Given this first encounter, it was no surprise that the Babes were confident May 5th when they met the Dollz for the second time, and this time on their home turf in Bemidji, MN. And to make the odds even better for the Babes, the Dollz were skating with a short roster of only 11, including two rookies and veteran blocker Betsy Wrecksie just one week back from a PCL injury.

Baconfest 2012 – Wrapped up for another year.

Success!  The 3rd Annual Bacon Fest was held on Saturday, April 28th at the Downtown Coliseum.   As soon as the doors opened there was a wave of people with “Pork Passports” ready to sample the 13 recipes that had one awesome ingredient.  BACON!

This years contestants offered a wide range of bacon goodness.  Sweet or spicy, the creations paired well with the salty bacon.  With double the recipes from last year our judges had a tough time narrowing down the winners.   Mayor Mike Huether, Police Officer Mark, Nancy Naeve and Rachel Gabrielsen from KSFY were our judges.

And the 2012 Bacon Fest winners are:

1st Place -  Candied Bacon with Apple BBQ Sauce
                -  Chef Joseph Szurek (Leonardo's Cafe – Washington Pavilion)
2nd Place - Candied Bacon Fudge
                -  Jennifer and Lyle Beckman (Sinful Things Gourmet Desserts – Downtown Sioux Falls)
3rd Place -  Bacon Balls
                -  Team Maker (Pampered Chef – Sioux Falls)
