3/17/10 - Our First Double Header!
Bout 1 Killa Beez Clash with Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls at First Home Bout
The Sioux Falls Roller Dollz Killa Beez wowed the filled EXPO building April
17th at their first appearance in front of their home crowd. Continuing in
their undefeated first season, the Beez rolled to victory in their second
hard-fought match against the bruisers from the north, the Fargo Moorhead
Derby Girls.
Having played the FMDG in February, it was hard to recognize the girls on
the track this month. After their bitter loss to the Beez this winter, it
was evident at the first whistle that the FMDG had been studying the Beez’ moves
and working on a counter strategy. The FMDG stayed in a close cluster, not
letting the Beez pick them apart, but the Beez swarmed the outside of the
pack, a strategy that worked to distract the FMDG just long enough to allow
their jammer to sneak into the inside. Big hitters Blondzilla, Red Thunder
and Frenchi Fisht-fighter were working overtime to make a path for jammers
Ltl Wicked, N.Nita Meds and Diggity Dalex.
The Beez played two twenty-minute periods for their bout, but by half time’s
close score of 33 Beez to 21 FMDG, fans were hardly given a chance to get
out of their seats at the 10 minute intermission before the action on the
track continued.
The second period saw the Beez gaining a larger lead, but more penalties
for both teams. The pack was fast and the penalty box full, but the Beez
were able to maintain their lead and finish with a strong victory of 108
to 59.
Bout 2 Minnesota North Star Super Novas
Defeat Sioux Falls Roller Doll Starz
The stands and floor was packed to cheer the Dollz on for their last official
bout in at the Sioux Falls fairgrounds. With an estimated 1,500+ fans in
attendance, the crowd was loud and proud of the Dollz as they skated against
the top-ranked Minnesota North Star Roller Girls Supernovas.
Fans might remember the fast and furious team in green from last January
where they defeated the Dollz 117 to 71. The NSRG were back with many familiar
faces like blockers Tin Lizzy and speedy jammers Katarina Hitt and Medusa.
But despite having played with the NSRG in prior seasons, in the end the
Dollz were no match.
From the first whistle the Dollz struggled: having tired blockers from the
first Killa Beez bout, the Doll Starz were forced to skate a small poor of “fresh” skaters
in multiple lines, often without breaks which meant more penalties. And with
a team built for speed and hitting like the NSRG, this is no game to go to
tired. The Doll Starz fought hard the first period, but couldn’t gain
a single point until a few jams before half time Julia Wild was able to squeak
through with 2 points. But the Roller Dollz fans brought the house down with
cheers – a momentum that would help propel the Doll Starz through the
grueling second period.
Down 175 points, the Doll Starz pulled out all the stops, re-evaluating
their approach and focusing on holding back the NSRG to keep the pack together
and try and let their jammer have a chance to bust through the opposing front
blockers who maintained a two-skater wall at the front of the pack. For the
NSRG, it was an effective strategy that allowed them to usually suck the
Dollz’ jammer back into the pack, but more often than not in the second
period, the Dollz were able to wrestle control from the front blockers to
let their jammer get through and gain some precious points. Though
it wasn’t a high-scoring second period, there were some incredible
plays, including rookie Blondzilla’s slamming hit on NSRG’s jammer
Jawbreaker, as well as blocker Dazzer’s astounding 7-point jam. Even
though the Dollz gave it their all in the second half, the Supernova’s
lead was too much to make up the difference, leaving the final score at the
fourth whistle 51 Dollz to the NSRG’s 234.

Dollz Fall Short in Indianapolis
Roller Dollz face off in their second bout against the Naptown Roller Girls, March 20th
The Dollz faced off with the Naptown Roller Girls in Indianpolis, Indiana this Saturday, March 20th for their second away game of 2010. Sioux Falls fans may remember Naptown from the Dollz’ season opener in October where the Dollz rolled to victory with a final score of 96 to 59. With revenge on their agenda, the Naptown Rollers had their roster stacked with their seasoned veterans this round, trying to correct the mistake they made this fall when facing off with the scrappy South Dakota team.
After a grueling road trip, the Dollz were excited to take the track Saturday night to a sold-out crowd of 3,000 rowdy Indy fans, most in Star Wars costumes in honor of the bout’s theme that night, “Scar Wars.” Aside from a photo area for fans to have their picture taken with the likes of Darth Vader and Princess Leia, the Naptown Roller Girls took the track for warm-ups with an entourage of storm troopers and an eight-foot Chewbaca.
With the first whistle, both teams started with a quick pack – both teams are fast-skating, and it would be the challenge of the evening for both teams to stay together. Sioux Falls pulled ahead with a strong 16 point lead within the first few jams, with Naptown’s jammer barely able to get through the pack. But Naptown was quick to adjust their strategy and began to focus more on offense to make their jammer a priority against the Dollz’ powerful blockers. The tide began to tip when, with two Dollz blockers and the jammer in the box, Naptown was able to snag a 28 point jam. It would be a lead that the Dollz would be chasing for the rest of the bout.
At the half, the score was still incredibly close, with the Dollz only trailing by 7 points with the score 64 Naptown, Dollz 51. The Dollz came into the second period with a revised strategy, coming slow off the line – sometimes not even moving when the first whistle blew – in order to gain control of the back of the pack and be the first to meet the Naptown jammer. The unfortunate side-effect of this strategy was Naptown’s ability to remain in a three-blocker wall in front of the Dollz, usually able to hold the Dollz’ jammer in the pack. Points were slowing gained by both teams. Second period saw more penalties for both teams as well, but more often than not, the Dollz were only skating with two blockers on the track, a formula that spelled a frustrating uphill battle for the Dollz’ jammers. Queen Elizabitch racked up an amazing grand slam in the final jam, but it wasn’t enough to push the Dollz to victory. The Dollz fell short by a mere 11 points, with a final score of 89 to Naptown’s 100.

Sioux Falls Killa Beez Sting the Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls
Killa Beez continue undefeated streak in North Dakota, March 6th
Though only in their first season, the Killa Beez have shown they have what
it takes in this third game of the regular season. Facing the Fargo Moorhead
Derby Girls in Fargo, North Dakota this weekend, the Beez dominated the track
throughout the game.
The FMDG is a new team to the region, formed in 2009 the league has been working
hard to gain experience from surrounding leagues and growing both their team
numbers as well as their reputation. Dollz skaters and refs have been instrumental
in helping get the league rolling and were excited to come and play the FMDG
this winter, as well as host them at home in April. And though the team is
new, these girls weren’t green on the track.
With a rowdy, sold-out crowd, the house was packed and ready for action Saturday,
March 6th. The Beez had traveled on foggy, icy roads to get to Fargo and were
ready to go at the first whistle. Both teams did well maintaining the pack,
but it was obvious from the get-go that the FMDG blockers were going for big
hits. The Beez remained steadfast to their strategy of making roadblocks for
the opposing jammers by creating walls of two to three blockers and holding
back opposing blockers to gain control over the pack.
With bench management team Jackie O’Smashus and Cutthroat Cypher calling
the shots from the sidelines, the Beez were able to change-up their usual line-up:
aside from the familiar faces with the star, such as Ltl Wicked, N.NitaMeds
and Sandra D’Vious, blockers like Blondezilla, Red Thunder and Pain Maker
tried their hand at jamming.
By the last four whistles, the Beez had put 173 points on the board against
FMDG’s 37. Both team exchanged hugs and hi-fives at the end and celebrated
together over homemade chili and a beautiful sheet cake featuring the Killa
Beez logo next to the Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls. Needless to say, both teams
can’t wait to skate together next month for the opening game April 17th.

Roller Dollz Seek Revenge On The Omaha Roller Girls
After falling to the Omaha Roller Girls in their January 23rd home game by
a mere 7 points, the Dollz were looking for vengeance on the track Saturday
night. It was the ORG’s season opener, and the packed crowds were a testament
to their loyal following.
There were many familiar faces on both rosters, including heavy hitters Daisy
Mayham and Sharon Misery from the ORG as well as the Dollz’ own big hitters, Pain Maker, Dusty Bibles, Dazzer and Hollicidal Maniac. The venue for the event is a place called Skate Daze, an indoor amusement park that’s a mix between Gigglebee’s and Carousel Skate; and it’s
about as far from what the Dollz are used to skating in as you can get. One
main advantage for Omaha going into any home game at Skate Daze is the incredible
hardwood floor that enables skaters to go faster without sliding through turns,
as well as providing quicker responsiveness with hits and dodges. Experience
with a grippy surface such as this tends to give Omaha a slight disadvantage
on other surfaces such as concrete, but they maximize it when on their home
turf.
The first couple jams of the game found Omaha establishing an early lead. Jammers
Ima Firestarter, Anna Maniac and McKillya were able to get through the pack
first and gather their five points quickly. The Dollz defense worked hard to
put a stop to the ORG, but the pack tended to stratify, leaving a wall of ORG
blockers in the back sitting on the Dollz’ jammer and the Dollz maintaining the front. Aside from incredible speed on both teams, this was also a game of hard hits. The ORG especially are known as a slower yet hard-hitting team, and it was evident from the very first whistle that this bout would be no different. But despite ORG’s hits and speed, the Dollz continued to chip away at their lead with the help of jammers Jackie O’Smashus,
Queen Elizabitch and Julia Wild. By the half the Dollz were trailing by 60
points and looking to regroup their strategy.
The Dollz have always been a fast-skating team who likes to control the front of the pack. After the halftime break, it was evident that this strategy was not working against Omaha, who would take the back of the pack and slow down to force 20 ft. penalties on the Dollz. So the strategy for second period was to change this up and have a pair of blockers hang to the back, waiting to sit on the Omaha jammer, while the front two would assist on breaking up the ORG defense and stop their jammer if she snuck by the first defense.
Second period started off with a bang as Julia Wild grabbed lead jammer over
Ima Firestarter and racked up a grand slam and 14 points. It was a momentum
that would continue through the second period as jammers Jackie O’Smashus and Queen Elizabitch continued to rack up the points. Second period also brought more ORG skaters to the box, allowing the Dollz to continue to chip away at the ORG’s lead. Tragedy struck with about ten minutes left in the bout when jammer Jackie O’Smashus went down at the fourth whistle, unable to get up. EMTs rushed to her side and the audience cheered as she was carried off the track by skater Dazzer’s
brother, Dustin.*
When the game returned to action, both teams found themselves sent to the penalty box, often skating jams with just two blockers. Despite the momentum and determination from the Dollz in the second period, it was too little too late for them to catch up, with the final score by the fourth whistle leaving Omaha with 117 and the Dollz with 87.
** Update ** Skater Jackie O’Smashus is all patched up and doing well. She was taken to the hospital where it was revealed that she broke a bone in her leg and tore a ligament. She had surgery on Sunday but is now at home. She will be in a cast of two weeks and will then begin the long road to recovery. True to Jackie’s gun-ho spirit, the only thing she had to ask when she was carried off the track was “Did
I get any points?”

Dollz Host Omaha, Narrow Loss by 7 Points
There are few hardier fans than the fans of the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz. Despite a parking lot coated in ice, and a forecast for sleet and rain, the stands were at capacity on Saturday night as the Dollz welcomed their rivals to the south, the Omaha Rollergirls.
Fans remembered the ORG well from last year’s season closer, where the Dollz dominated the ORG. After losing to the Dollz twice last season, it was obvious that the ORG were seeking some big-time revenge. There were some familiar faces on the ORG roster, including heavy-hitter Daisy Mayhem #665 and speedy jammer Ima Firester #53, but there were also some new faces including Anna Maniac #999, whom the Dollz had faced when she skated with the ICT Roller Girls out of Witchita, Kansas. Fans were ready to see the Dollz do their thing on the track, and were not disappointed when the first jam set the pace for the remainder of the game.
Known as a hard-hitting and slow skating team, the ORG’s strategy remained similar to their previous encounters with the Dollz: their blockers kept to the back of the pack, forming a four-skater wall against the jammer, usually opening a gap on the outside of the track to whip their jammer to the front of the pack. The Dollz’ strategy was to keep the pack at a more moderate pace and control the front of the pack, waiting to suck that opposing jammer back in once she cleared her own skaters. This strategy was highly effective at stopping ORG’s jammer and consistently giving the Dollz’ jammer lead jammer status. By obtaining the lead jammer status, the Dollz were able to successfully call off the jam in a way to keep the ORG from scoring. But even achieving lead jammer status could not keep the ORG’s jammer from grabbing precious penalty points from Dollz who were serving their time in the penalty box. Trailing by fourteen points at the half, the Dollz put their heads together to start working on better controlling the pack and staying out of the box.
Second period, fans got to see some real fast-hitting action as the Dollz came back utilizing more strategic blocks and letting the ORG tire themselves out with big hits. The strategy was working, but the Dollz could not keep their skaters out of the box, again, handing points to the ORG with every jam. With less than ten minutes left in the bout, the Dollz were trailing by less than 25 points and the crowd was screaming as announcers D.O.C. and Destructive D-Lite egged them on. The bout literally came down to the last jam: the rafters felt like they were shaking when the final whistle was blown to start the last jam, all the crowd was on there feet cheering.
When the last four whistles were blow, the final score left the Dollz just 7 points from victory – final score 80 to 87.
Though the bout was hard-fought, there were nothing but hi-fives and hugs between
the two teams in the end. And with this bout behind them, the Dollz look forward
to meeting their Omaha rivals again next month on February 20th to return the
favor, and beat ORG on their home turf.

Sioux Falls Killa Beez Sting the Sioux City Roller Dames
Sioux Fall Roller Dollz Killa Beez vs. Sioux City Roller Dames
The Killa Beez continued the Roller Dollz season four winning streak with their
victory this weekend in Sioux City. A fast-paced game filled with big hits and
quick jamming, the Beez earned their stripes once again, this time against the
hard-hitting Dames.
The Beez started out strong, maintaining a defensive and aggressive pack. The
Dames’ strategy was to “pinch” the Beez blockers to the inside
of the track, allowing their jammer to be whipped on the outside, granting them
the advantage of speed coming through the corners. But while this strategy allowed
the Dames’ jammer to get through on occasion, the Beez were able to use
their position on the inside of the line to shuttle their jammer through their
own blockers, usually allowing the jammer to get through the pack cleaner and
quicker – the best way to ensure lead jammer status.
At the half, the game was still close with only 20 odd points separating the
Beez’ lead over the Dames. After regrouping during half time, the Dollz
decided to try a new strategy of forming pairs and “walls” of blockers
to better keep the Dames’ jammer from breaking through the pack. Even
though big hitters from the Sioux City team like Mo Pain and P.B.R. were hammering
the Beez, blockers Red Thunder, Hollicidial Maniac and Blondezilla were quick
to retaliate with some brutal hits all their own. Once the period got rolling,
it was clear the Dames were hurting – skaters Betsy Wrecksie and Sandra
D’Vious both required attention from the on-site EMTs for lower back injuries.
But the Dollz kept fighting, and most importantly, shutting out the Dames’ jammer
and racking up the points. When the final four whistles blew, the score was Beez
112 to 86 for the Dames.

Battle for South Dakota Bout Roller Dollz Killa Beez
The stands were packed Saturday, November 21st as the Sioux Falls Dollz Killa Beez prepared to take on their newest West-river rivals, the Rushmore Rollerz. A new league, formed over a year ago, the Rollerz have been looking for an opportunity to settle the score between East and West river South Dakota with the Dollz, and this last weekend, the score was finally settled.
The tone for the bout was set before the teams even hit the track, as MC Destructive D-Lite introduced sister-in-laws, and now bitter rivals, Red Thunder of the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz and Pinky B Witch from the Rushmore Rollerz. After a little trash-talking, the teams skated out and took their respective spots on the bench.
The first jam set the tone for the rest of the game, with a solid wall of pink blockers in the front and team captain, Jackie O’Smashus, flying through the pack and grabbing lead jammer status. The Dollz’ strategy was to play a close, controlled pack focused on defense. The Dollz grabbed an early lead and held onto it with a score of 134 to 49 at the half.
Comprised of season four rookies, the Killa Beez team was the first opportunity for about half of the team to skate in front of their friends, family and new fans. New-comers Fully Ozomatic and N. Nita Meds proved formidable jammers throughout the game, racking up as many as fifteen points in a single jam! Right there waiting in the pack were rookie blockers Casey Lace’em, Norma Mean and Blondezilla. At a formidable six foot, Blondezilla was a crowd favorite as she slammed into blocker and jammer alike – especially when paired with the equally tall and just as destructive Red Thunder. Other crowd favorites, like Frenchie Fistfighter, Lady Biohazard, Sandra D’Vious, Applicious, Betsy Wrecksie, Lil’ Wicked, Jackie O’Smashus, and Lilly KillKill were there to hip-check, shoulder jab and can-open their way through the Rollerz’ defenses!
At the start of the second half, it was obvious that the Rollerz were working harder than ever to tear the Roller Dollz defense apart: though the Dollz were able to get to the front of the pack and maintain control, they often found their blockers being picked off or “pinched” to the inside by the Rollerz in an attempt to get their jammer through. But even their best efforts to break-down the Dollz defenses could not keep the Dollz speedy jammers from flying through the pack and racking up the points.
When the final four whistles blew, the dust was settled and the score was 247 to 87, with East River triumphant in the Battle for South Dakota. Needless to say, there was nothing but hugs and hi-fives after the games, as well as plans for the next chance for the two sides of the state to clash on the derby track.
A special thank you to all of our fans who made the trek up to Brookings to cheer on the Dollz, also our officials and volunteers who help us put on such amazing event! A portion of the proceeds from the “Battle for South Dakota” bout will be donated to Honor Flight South Dakota, an organization that makes it possible for our national’s veterans to see the monuments in Washington D.C. that have been built in their honor.

Dollz Kick off Season
Four with Victory
Dollz Dominate the Indianapolis Naptown Roller Girls
at Home Opener October 10th
The stands were packed as the
Dollz rolled onto the track for the
first home bout of season four! The
home crowd was loud and rowdy as
they welcomed the Naptown Roller
Girls from Indianapolis, Indiana to
the EXPO Building.
Known as a fast-skating and hardhitting
team, the NRG came out
of the first couple jams fast and
working hard to pinch the Dollz
on the inside, opening up some
holes on the outside for their jammers
to pass. But the Dollz aren’t
used to being boxed in, and quickly
changed strategy, slowing the pack
down and hammering their hardest
blockers, like Four Leaf Cleaver
and Shadi Layne.
The Dollz grabbed the lead in the
first couple jams and held on tightly
the whole night. Frustrated, the
NRG were able to momentarily stop
the Dollz and rack up some points
just prior to half time.
When the whistles blew for second
period, fans could see how each
team was adjusting their skating
style to counter-attack the strategy
of the other blockers. Now, instead
of each team speeding ahead, the
pack started slow right from the first
whistle, usually with the jammers
hitting the back of the pack after
the first turn. But what could have
been a good defense for the NRG,
was no match for the Dollz’ speedy
jammers, who whizzed through the
pack of slow blockers.
Jammer Queen Elizabitch had an
outstanding game, dominating with
a total of 43 points scored for the
Dollz - an average of 3.58 points
per jam! The NRG’s top jammer,
Blue Messiah, on the other hand
was only able to garner 20 points
the whole game.
Aside from control of the pack
speed and having quick jammers,
the Dollz did an excellent job of controlling
the game through achieving
lead jammer status. With the power
to call off the jam in the hands (and
hips) of the lead jammer, consistently
gaining control over the jam
in this manner was pivotal to the
Dollz final victory of 96 to 59.

ROAD TRIP
RESULTS!!!
The Sioux Falls Rollerdollz spent the weekend
of April 25th in a van. Sounds like fun eh? They
had to drive to Columbus, OH to play a special
bout against the Ohio Roller Girls. This was the
first of 2 important bouts that are required to set
the Rollerdollz official WFTDA team ranking. The
final score? 85-88! It was neck and and neck
throughout the entire bout,
but in the end, the
Dollz lost by only 3 points! That's nothing to scoff
at though as Ohio is currently ranked 8th in
the nation!
Co-Founder Jayme 'Painmaker' Nelson
said "We were very proud of our performance.
We worked well together on the track, played
hard, and represented Sioux Falls well. They
were not expecting such a tough challenge."
We'd like to thank all of our supporters who
helped out with our travel expenses.

Rollerdollz vs. North Star Roller Girls
Despite a strong and promising start, the Roller Dollz ultimately
fell to the Minnesota North Star’s “Super Nova’s” in
a final score of 117 to 71.
Within the first ten minutes the Roller Dollz scored a commanding ten point
lead. They showed strong teamwork and impressive jamming. At the end of the
first period the score was a surmountable 40 to 59.
The Supernovas came back strong in the second period. Julia Wild and Little
Miss Masochist took a beating by the Nova's defense, but they kept on ticking,
both spending time at the jammer line and in the pack. For the Northstars,
jammers Medusa and Katarina Hitt were on fire, as they sped around the track.
The Dollz efficiently contained them on a number of occasions, but they certianly
slipped through a few times. Queen Elizabitch came out with a 19 point jam,
closing the gap half way through the second period. Although there were some
impressive plays during these thirty minutes, the penalty box got the best
of the Dollz and, in the end; the dollz came up short against the Supernovas.
It was a tough loss for the Dollz as they fell to the Supernovas at the end
of last season, but their drive and determination was no match for the clean
skating and skill of the Supernovas.
Though the Dollz suffered defeat, that did not put a damper on the after
bout party, which was held at The Red Eye! DJ Absolute spun jams while Dollz
and Novas alike danced the night way. A Roller Dollz post bout party never
fails to bring the best dance offs and Saturday’s was no different.
The Roller Dollz have great respect for the Northstar organization and are
already planning a rematch. Keep your eyes peeled!

A crisp Saturday
evening on the 10th of November brought the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz for the

decisive win. This bout marked first time appearances for many of this
year's new recruits; veterans came to learn quickly that fresh meat or not,
they could play hard too. Great Job Ladies!! The after bout party was held

in infamy as the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz first ever loss, unceremoniously
defeated by the Omaha Roller Girls. However, the Dollz, equally as
hard and fast as the sleek wood floor, would not go down without a fight. Could
this be the beginning of a intense rivalry? Only time will tell.

Showing some of their best skating to date, the Roller Dollz proved to the
World they are bona fide and here to stay. An uphill battle all
the way, every inch was heavily contested. Gang Green's defense came out
early, shutting down the ferocious skating of star jammer, Applicious. Off
to an early lead, Gang Green's unstoppable jammer, Sylvia Bullet, affectionatly
known in the stands as "The One", confirmed this bout would not soon be forgotten
as its many turns left the crowd breathless and on its feet a majority of
the match.
In the end, there were no losers. Both teams showed poise, strength,
and professionalism; The perfect end to a great season. The after bout celebrations
