Baconfest Cook-Off 2011
a delicious fundraiser for the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz
April 30th • 1pm-3pm
Sioux Falls VFW, Bingo Room
What is it?
Baconfest is a fundraiser for the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz, with proceeds from
the events to help cover travel expenses for the team’s multiple out
of town bouts this Spring. Open to all ages and levels of culinary skill,
Baconfest is a cook-off to celebrate perhaps the greatest food ever: bacon.
Entries for the cook-off will open Friday, April 1st, 2011 and will close Monday, April 25th, 2011.
How do I enter?
Contestants may enter by clicking the link at the bottom of this page and filling out the registration form.
There is a $10 entry fee per menu item, but you are not limited to how many
menu items you may enter (so if you have three menu items, your entry fee
will be $30). Entry fees will be collected the day of the event; failure
to pay will disqualify the contestant.
Recipe Contest Rules
- Contestants must register for the cook-off by April 25th at 5pm using the online registration form. Entry fees will
be collected prior to judging the day of the competition. Each recipe item
is charged an entry fee of $10 – so if you submit 3 recipes, your entry
fee is $30.
- Each entry must contain bacon
as a main ingredient – no
throwing bacon bits on after the fact! Contestants are not limited to pork
bacon and may use any other kind of bacon in their dish (such as turkey
bacon, or tofu bacon). Alcohol related dishes are not allowed with the
exception of dishes containing cooking wine, beer batter, and the like.
- Recipes must be original and will be judged on creativity, texture, taste
and bacon-tude.
- If your dish is best served warm, please bring a crockpot/chafing dish
to keep it warm if possible. Limited extension cords are available, so bring
your own – especially if you require several. If your dish is best
served cold, please bring a cooler or other way of chilling your item as
we will not have fridge space to accommodate contestants.
- The bacon cook-off begins promptly at 1 p.m., so plan to arrive with time
to set-up and arrange your dish. Contestants may arrive as early as 11:30am
to set-up. Contestants are also responsible for clean-up of their booth area
after we close the doors at 3 pm. Your booth space is yours to decorate,
arrange or otherwise draw attention to your dish.
- Must have enough of you dish to serve 5 judges, and approx. 200 samples.
Remember that the guests sampling dishes will also be voting on a winner,
so make sure each sample adequately captures the “essence” of
your dish.
- Label your cookware and other items if you ever want to see it again – just
a precaution, but there will be a lot of people coming and going throughout
the afternoon.
- The decisions of the judges are final.
I want to eat, but I don’t want to cook anything – what’s in it for me?
Though the event is FREE to the public, if you would like to sample the bacon
menu items, you can purchase a pack of bacon tickets that entitles you to sample each of the
dishes and vote for your favorites. Bacon tickets are $5 per pack. Bacon tickets are limited to the first 200 people. Reserve yours
today!
